Orihime's FLOL speech.

Orihime : ...and then, for those 5 times.I'd fall in love with the same person.

As much as I agree that this was indeed a romantic scene,I still couldn't understand how some people (mostly Ichihime's) used to think that this can be used as a proof of Ichihime pairing possibility.

here's what they used to say about this...

"And then I watched episode 141. The pairing is just really obvious in those scenes, you know? It was hard to ignore… and also not to cry. XD The almost kiss + love confession from Orihime really touched me and that day I decided I would support these two. Because it just felt like they were the ones who had to end up together eventually. We could say that that was when I started to like and truly notice IchiHime."

I wonder how did a pairing became really obvious here, not to mention that the confession didn't come from the lead female of the story (it has a huge factor). As far as I know,a pairing needs TWO people involved, right? However, what's in this scene was a confirmation/confession from ONE character and not TWO.

This scene never showed that the Ichihime relationship has evolved. This scene only showed Orihime's feelings but not Ichigo's.

This scene is just a proof that Orihime does love Ichigo romantically (because she said so),but not Ichigo and Orihime loves each other romantically. To put it bluntly, this doesn't show anything obvious about a pairing, but a character's feelings towards another character.

also,I couldn't help but to agree with what this certain people said in Ichiruki vs Ichihime thread.

spidergoth

"He's really clueless to her feelings which leads me to believe he doesn't take much time to try to understand her. Because for anyone who does it would be at least a little obvious how she feels for him. Ishida seems to have picked up her feelings for Ichigo, because he pays more mind to her than Ichigo does.Tatsuki seeems to know and she clearly cares for Orihime enough to pick up on it. You have to be utterly thick headed and really not understand Orihime (which Ichigo seems to fit the bill) to not know how obvious her feelings are."

Yaminotamashi

"All of her "basic" understandings of him is because she spends so much time observing him. If Ichigo doesn't even notice THIS, that she's always a little more shy, a little more awkward around him, it shows that he doesn't take the time to observe her at all. He's more or less indifferent towards her when it comes to that. I've seen some IH shippers claim that Ichigo DOES understand Orihime more than anyone, but this is completely false that I don't even...excuse
me, what? ISHIDA is the only male character so far who has demonstrated an understanding of Orihime's feelings."

If Ichigo does really have a romantic feelings for Orihime,he would be able to notice her true feelings for him, just like Ishida does.A person in love likes to observe their object of affection, just like what Orihime always does, that's why she was able to notice the changes in Ichigo's behavior.Orihime was actually being obvious to her feelings, and I found it awkward that Ichigo doesn't notice it.

In any case,I agree that KT put this scene in the manga for a reason. However, was it to hint that Ichihime is going to happen? That,I wouldn't say anything, but as far as my observation goes...

the purpose of this scene is...

-To be able to understand why Orihime is acting like the way she is before and after this chapter.

*Why is she fidgeting in front of Ichigo.
*Why does she always talks about Ichigo.
*Why is she daydreaming about him.
*Why is she blushing in front of him.
*Why does she wanted to accompany him at the SS,or wanted to protect him
*Why does she wanted to be stronger and protect Ichigo.
*Why is she jealous that Rukia was able to bring him back to normal.
*Why is she crying when having the thoughts of Ichigo becoming happy after seeing Rukia again.
*Why is she bothered by Rukia's huge importance to Ichigo
*Why is she crying when Ichigo was hurt.
*Why did she got scared of Ichigo's hollow form/mask?
*Why is she trying to look at her reflection from Ichigo's eyes.
*Why did she panicked after seeing Ichigo lying half-dead on the ground.
*Why did she cried after seeing Ichigo was crying, even though her memory was messed up

I can go on and on,but the main point I was trying to say here is...She acts like that because she loves Kurosaki kun romantically, and we were able to know it all because of this particular scene, right? In other words,it is to give a reason for Orihime's behavior in the story. At least that is just up until now,and there's still 10 more years to go.However,I believe that people should start wondering now,as to why KT is being so adamant not to show any hint that Ichigo might reciprocate Orihime's feelings for him, especially,if he's really hinting for Ichihime possibility.

Wow, your essays are amazing! I always did wonder why ichihime fans thought that they would become couple. I knew it was because she confessed to him, but he never was awake in the first place.
I still wonder what kubo is up to since so far, there has not been much between them. I am still expecting Orihime to confess again, but this time with Ichigo actually awake. I am curious how it will all play out.

I just know Ichihime fans are loving the last arc so far because there was a lot of ichigo and orihime moments, though I still don't see it. Though what they did made me see was actually the bed scene. I never noticed until they mentioned how Ichigo did not say anything to Orihime when she was sitting on his bed compared to when Rukia sat on his bed. Ichihime fans say because it is Inoue (his love interest)and everyone else are not allowed on the bed. They had the images for it to show too! I found it interesting. I thought with Rukia sitting on Ichigo's bed was for comic relief, but now that they mentioned it. I do wonder if Kubo did that on purpose or I might just be looking into it too much. I like to read essays about bleach especially with the rivalry with Ichihime and ichiruki, but so far your essays are the best out of the ones I have read. Great job! You are great writer!

I agree with everything that you argued except for the part at the beginning where you said that the confession did not come from the main female lead. It sounds like you are saying that becaus Orihime is not the female lead means that the pairing is not possible. It is possible for the protagonist to fall in love with a girl who is not the female lead. That is the only critisism have to offer. I agree with everything else especially the part where you mentioned that in order for a pairing to be confirmed the feelings need to come from both sides. Overall this was a good essay.

i do believe that for some degree ichigo notice orihime filling him, it,s just that he does not have the same filling for her that,s why he doesnt know how to react to her. reject her it would be rude because she havent confess to him, being cold that is mean she hasnt do anything wrong to him so the only thing he can do is to maintenance distance and treat her equally with other nakama.come on it,s a shonen trope where the protagonist always have a secret admire it,s almost every shonen manga that,s why i don,t understand orihime,s flol have a big deal. HM arc is the big change for this pairing for shine but no kubo dont do that,in this last arc do you think kubo has time to develope this pairing where there are ton issue to be resolve and after what he does to ichiruki for more than 10 years.

About the one who replied about the part that I said that the confession comes from a female who is not the lead.I think when I said that it's a huge factor,I have conveyed in my message that it doesn't necessary mean that the pairing won't be possible just because the confession comes from a secondary main character,or is not the lead female/male character ^.^'>.I do know that a protagonist can fall in love with a character who is not the lead male/female,but I am merely explaining that it is a huge factor, something that can affect so much in most aspects of a story, and is something that the readers always have to consider.Besides,in most cases (and I mean most, not all) the confession often comes from the lovers who are meant to be unrequited.

In order to figure out the potential couple of a story, the first thing we need to look for is "is there a lead male/female character" in the story? If the answer is yes,the highest possibility would be,they are going to be a couple. If the answer is no,then there might be an equal possibility to any lovers of the protagonist.

Second thing is "is there another lover towards both of the lead male/female,or just one of them had another lover?" If the answer is yes, does the lead male/female seems to have an equal attention to both of their potential love object?or,are they showing any signs of reciprocating that other character's feelings?

Now,if the first one does exists, whether there is,or there is no confirmation from both the lead male/female about their feelings for each other,as long as they don't show any special feelings to any other character in the story aside from each other,no matter how many characters confessed their feelings to either of the leads, they are bound to see as a unrequited love.Unless it is blatantly confirmed that the relationship between the leads is absolutely something that is not going to be romantic, then the ones who confessed might have the possibility of becoming the love interest,in case the leads are really going to fall in love with someone.

Hence I am saying that if a confession comes from a character who is not the lead male/female,and had just confessed alone, and no sign of going to be reciprocated by their love object shouldn't be taken so seriously. They might be in the story as a mirror or a gauge of the lead character's love for each other (hence parallels exists so much in BLEACH).Another reason would be "character development" (positive or negative, depending on the author's preferences for the plot)

In any case, thanks for an honest criticism. That's what I liked the most ^.^V.

This is great!!! I think I might of read about this topic on your live journal a while back, so I'm assuming that this is the edited version. One day you should write an essay on ichiruki vs. renruki. Ichihime shippers tend to use renruki as an excuse as to why Ichigo and Rukia can't get together at the end. Anyways great essay!!! :)

Thank you for you essay!
Before I came to the fandom (I mean forums such as BA and websites as Fanfiction.net) I never consider the OrihimexIchigo pairing because in my previous opinion (the manga and anime episodes gave me the impresson), they are just classmates and the fact that Orihime loves Ichigo didn't bother me at all. BUT, it really struck me in the first few times that there ARE so many (not as many as Ichiruki fans) Ichihime fans and they claim some ridiculous reasons for Ichigo and Orihime should be together bla bla bla. I mean, ... well, so I started to look into this pairing and... You know I once thought that there's no ground to argue Ichiruki VS Ichihime because the latter is just impossible (I think Kubo has already made this obvious in the manga there's no point in arguing anymore. Not that I hate Orihime or anything, I think I liked her a lot when I was watching the SS Arc. Not much in HM Arc though, but she's back to normal in FB Arc. Some times her fans went too far.) Ichiruki is too obvious! The entire Ichigo saving Rukia thing (The SS Arc), for me, IS the process of Ichigo realizing and subtly confessing his affection to Rukia. The manga strayed a little in the HM Arc, but straying back in the chapter 423. And I think FB Arc is not that bad at all. I still remembered the feeling when I first watched Bleach seven years ago, at the end of SS Arc, I developed so much love for Rukia. And Ichigo. And Ichiruki.
Thanks again! Wish I could see more of your essays soon!
